A Brief Profile of the Department
Established in the year 1984, synchronizing with the inception of the college, the department had Ms. Ila Das and Ms. Ruma Choudhury as its founding faculty. The department, known for the performance of its students in the university examinations, has to its credit a number of university toppers. The Department upgraded itself by introducing honours course at the degree level, in 1993.

Dr. Chandana Bhattacharjee, M.A., Ph.D., joined the college as a Lecturer in the Department of Anthropology, in August, 1993. Currently Head, Department of Anthropology, she served as an Assistant professor at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussorie for one year during 1994-95. At present, she is the Principal of Women’s College.

Dr. Peacefully Kharkongor, M.A., Ph.D., (UGC-NET), joined the college as a Lecturer in Anthropology, in July, 2006 prior to which she served as Lecturer at St. Claret College, Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh during 2004-06. She was awarded the ICSSR Research Fellowship in 2010 for a period of two years and has resumed her regular assignment at the college after completing her fellowship term. Dr. Kharkongor takes active part in the various activities of the college. Apart from being an academician, she is also a painter.

Ms. Chunthuiliu Kamei, M.A. UGC NET, JRF, joined the college as Lecturer in Anthropology, in June, 2010. Ms Kamei is a Physical Anthropologist currently pursuing her doctoral research at NEHU. She actively helps in coordinating the various academic and events that are organised in the college.

Dr. Sarnali Saikia, M.A., Ph.D., joined the college as a Lecturer in Anthropology, in June, 2015. She actively takes participation in various academic and co-curricular activities organised in the college.
