Department ofEconomics
The Department of Economics comprises of four highly dedicated faculty members whose continuous endeavour has been to improve and excel in academics and related activities. It is incumbent on the faculty to follow the prescribed syllabus of the affiliating university. It provides a strong foundation in economic theory and quantitative tools of economic analysis. The department takes pride in stating that its students have generally had a 100 percent pass results in the university examinations with some of them featuring as position holders in the university list of top 10 meritorious students.
Apart from regular teaching and evaluation we are engaged in various activities of the college. Ms Mayashree B. Das is the co-ordinator of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the college. Ms Haimanti Choudhury is the convenor of the Internal Complain Committee and also manages the Disaster Management Cell. Dr Madhuchhanda Dasgupta takes care of the remedial classes meant for the slow learners. Dr Sangeeta Dasgupta is our alumna and as such she is in charge of the college Alumni Association. She is also a member of the college Internal Quality Assurance Cell. A talented painter, Dr. Sangeeta Dasgupta has been awarded the title ‘Chitramani’ for her contribution to painting from Surnandan Bharati, Kolkata in 2017. She has also participated in the First Annual Women in Watercolour International Online show from 25 June to 30 August 2020.
The faculty of the department regularly participate in various seminars, webinars, workshops, conferences and guest lectures within and outside the college. It also organized an international seminar on "Border Trade in North East India. A Politico Economic Perspective in the year 2016"

Ms. Mayashree B. Das
M.A., M. Phil.
Ms. Mayashree B. Das was the convenor of an International Seminar on 'Border Trade in North East India: A Politico Economic Perspective'. She has completed few research projects funded by the ICSSR and the UGC. She has been till date, the member co - ordinator of IQAC of the college since 2007. Presently she is the Head of the Department
Ms. Haimanti Choudhury
M.A., L.L.B
Ms. Haimanti Choudhury's ssociation with the college goes back to the time when the college was in a nascent stage. This was the year 1990 and thus has completed thirty years of service. At present she is involved in ICC (Internal Complaint Committee) and Disaster Management Committees.
Dr. Madhuchhanda Das Gupta
M.A., M. Phil., Ph.D. (Econometrics)
Dr. Madhuchhanda Das Gupta has a long experience in teaching not only undergraduate courses in economics, but has also taught post graduate management courses. A gold medalist in the master’s degree examination conducted by the North Eastern Hill University, she obtained her M. Phil. and Ph.D. degrees for her research works in econometrics from the University. She has contributed chapters in text books, published and presented papers in national and international seminars and participated in workshops. She has also completed two research projects sponsored by UGC and ICSSR, New Delhi.
Dr.Sangeeta Dasgupta
M.A. (Economics), Ph.D.
Dr.Sangeeta Dasgupta did her M.A. in Economics (1st Class 1st Rank) from North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong. She was awarded Ph.D. by the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, for her thesis on ‘A Study of Economic Development Strategy for Tribals in Meghalaya’ in the year 2014. She intends to remain flexible in her academic endeavors and implement positive changes in teaching and learning process. She aims to incorporate more of the latest educational technology into the daily classroom sessions and create an online presence.
