Department of Education, Women’s College, has been functioning since the inception of the college in 1984. However, it was in the year 1994 that the department started with Honours course. Dr. (Prof.) Biloris Lyndem, (Prof.) Sherwin Sungoh and Ms.Poonam Rawat were the founding faculty of the department.
The department has so far completed three Research Projects, coordinated three national level seminars, two workshops, organised one book-release programme. Moreover, on regular occasions the department organises lectures by eminent scholars.

Dr. Sumana Paul
M.A. (Education), Ph.D.
Dr. Sumana Paul, a teacher, aresearcher in social sciences, and a social worker obtained her M. A., B. Ed. and Ph. D. degrees from the North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong. Currently, she is the Head of the Department of Education, Women’s College, Shillong. She has been teaching in this college since November, 1991. She is associated with a number of academic institutions of high repute, credited with authorship of six books and more than a hundred articles published in national and international journals. She has also coordinated a number of research projects, seminars, workshops and training programmes. She is also a member of the college IQAC.
Dr. Sonali Roy Paul
M.A. (Education), Ph.D.
Dr. Sonali Roy Paul started her teaching career as Initiator and Head, Department of Education; Don Bosco College Tura in May 1989. She left her job there in September 1994 and thereafter joined Women’s College, Shillong. She completed her Ph.D from North Eastern Hill University in 1996 with specialization in Educational Technology and Language teaching.
Dr. Shanchuila Shangrei
M.A. (Education), Ph.D.
Dr. Shanchuila Shangrei, M.A., Ph.D. UGC NET, joined the institution as an Assistant professor in Education department in October 2016. She takes active part in different college activities. She is also a member of BOS, Department of Adult and Continuing Education NEHU for two years 2018-2019. She is also an Academic Counsellor in IGNOU since 2018.
Dr. Devjani Kar
M.A. (Education), Ph.D.
Dr. Devjani Kar, M.A., Ph.D., has been serving this college as an Assistant Professor in Education, since June 2000. Presently, she is a guest lecturer in St. Anthony’s College in PG Department of Education. She is also an Academic Counsellor in IGNOU since 2009 and supervising PG students of IGNOU since 2015.
