The Department of Khasi, Women’s College Shillong was established since the inception of the College, in 1984. The first faculty members were Mr. Tom Taylor Mukhim, and Dr. Pascal R. Khongngai. Mr. Mukhim was also a local artist (singer) and had produced some cassettes in Khasi. Dr. Khongngai besides being a Homoeopathic doctor was also actively involved in research and was awarded a PhD degree in Khasi from NEHU a few years back. The Department is having a Pass Course only till date, with MIL and Elective papers in Khasi.
Mr. Cosmas Rynshon, M.A, HOD, joined the Khasi Department in September 1991. He has been the NSS Programme Officer from 2003 till date. He was awarded as the Best Programme Officer and the NSS Unit Women’s College as the Best NSS Unit from the NSS Cell, NEHU Shillong during the NSS Foundation Day in 2013. He published Ki Hira ka Jingim, a collection of 200 anecdotes translated into Khasi from English in 2017.
Ms. Olisha Warjri, M.A., M.Phil., joined the Department in the year 2000. She was awarded M.Phil in Khasi in the same year. She is actively involved as an examiner in Khasi at the degree level. She is also a member of the Cultural Committee and actively involved in organizing various cultural events in the College as well as outside the institution.
