Department ofPolitical Science

The Department of Political Science began along with the inception of the College in 1984 as a pass course subject. The department was granted affiliation for offering Honours courses by the North Eastern Hill University in the year 1994. Prof. B. Datta Ray,a renowned academician, along with a few like-minded,dedicated and sincere teachers were the founder members. Ms. Ipsita Bose, Mr. S. Mishra, Ms. V. Solomon, Ms. S. Bhattacharjee, Dr. P. Deb Barma and Dr. Rajesh Dev who were also part of the faculty rendered commendable, selfless services to it. The department has been trying to inculcate interest in the theoretical aspects of the discipline while at the same time incorporating real life happenings, thereby building a strong foundation for the students. Concepts-their formulations, applications and such are thus discussed with the students in and outside of the classroom. The department conducts student-teacher and student-teacher-parents meets to discuss aspects relating to the teaching methods,corrective measures for academic shortfalls and general discipline. The academic performance of our students has been consistently good in terms of pass percentage and quality of result with rank holders. In co-curricular activities also our students have taken a leading role. Our alumni are well-placed in society. Most of them are employed in the banking sector, law and police departments, income tax and customs departments,universities and colleges and a good number of them have been and are pursuing research work in various fields. So far, the department has organized two international seminars, one national seminar, a few workshops and several guest lectures over the years. Matter of fact it is a continuing practice of the department to organize guest lectures by eminent scholars, workshops and seminars on a regular basis. Presently the department is functioning with four faculty members - Ms. Ruma Das (HOD), Ms. Rosemary Debbarma, Mr. Vareipam Muivah and Mr. Elim Hmar.
